Description

Food contact materials in the European Union (EU) are regulated by the Framework Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and the GMP Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006.  The Framework Regulation is implemented for plastics by the Plastics Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 and its amendments.  The Plastics Regulation is the most comprehensive example of food contact legislation in the EU.  It uses a combination of a positive list of authorized substances and migration limits to protect consumer safety.  Migration testing is done for compliance with both overall and specific migration limits, but, is costly and time consuming and should be minimized wherever possible.  Also, migration testing appears relatively straightforward, but what do you do when problems are encountered?

This training session will explain the problems that are encountered with migration testing and the actions you should take to overcome these.  It will also explain how to minimize migration testing by best practice selection of testing conditions and screening methods and how to apply correction factors.  Other useful information will include material thicknesses for functional barriers and how to correctly calculate migration by total immersion.

Why you should not miss this training?

When migration testing goes wrong incorrect results are obtained which can lead to false claims of compliance or non-compliance.  Even when all goes well there is unnecessary testing carried out, costing industry time and money.  Anyone involved in the food contact plastics supply chain who does not feel fully informed on best practice migration testing and what can go wrong would benefit from this training session.

Who should attend this training?

This a must have training for food packaging material producers, R&D chemist and formulators involved in food packaging. Also suitable for anyone responsible for showing that the food contact materials or articles produced by their company are compliant with the requirements of EU law, in particular;

        - Regulatory affairs professionals
        - Quality managers and quality department employees
        - Technical directors
        - Other technical managers and executives, production line supervisors
        - Testing laboratory personnel
